Lampshades come in many varieties today. They are available in classic, country, funky and any other kind you can think of. There is one out there that can meet just about every taste in design or decor.
For the person with classic tastes you might consider one in silk or linen. A white one with black piping might go well in a room with a black and white theme. If your room has an animal print theme then a sand-colored one with leopard-print piping might make a great statement. A traditional room might look good with something like a cream-colored shade with a scallop edge. Rattan shades would be good here as well. They come in rich colors like chestnut, chocolate brown and honey.
If art deco is more your style you might consider a shade with retro patterns on it like circles and squares in olive green and mustard colors. Another good retro choice is a triangular shaped one in faux leather. A Tiffany-style opalescent shade would go well in any art deco room.
There are many choices for the kids in your life too. There are princess pink shades with crystals dangling from the bottom, funky purple ones with gems, ones that come with polka dots, dinosaurs, stripes and sports gear. There are shades to match every child.
There are also shades to go with specific themes. A shade with hibiscus flowers on it would look good in a tropical room. If the southwest is your thing than a shade with a cactus border would be just the thing. A room with a sailing theme would look nice with a shade that has anchors on it. Themes come in colors as well. A room decorated in jewel tones would be a great place to get a shade in emerald or garnet.
There are many choices of lampshade materials on the market today. They come in cloth, rattan, glass, fiberglass, plastic, bronze and made of mica, just to name a few. Shapes include round, square, rectangle and tubular. So whether your mood is stern, light-hearted, bold, eccentric, funky or playful, there are lampshades out there with your name on them. Using lamps as accent or main home lighting is ideal because unlike many other types of light fixtures, lamps have shades which you can pick and choose from until you find one that matches your decor or own personal taste.
